Werner Drewes created this image on an offset plate for the portfolio of 30 prints published by Squibb Galleries.39 members of the American Abstract Artists members were given plates to do drawings on, 30 submitted their plates which were printed offset by Cane Press under the direction of Albert Carmen. This image served as the cover for the portfolio and the advertising for the exhibition.

April 2, 1937 was the American Abstract Artists first exhibition of 39 members, which opened at the Squibb Galleries, 745 Fifth Avenue, New York City. Instead of a catalog the AAA produced a print portfolio for this exhibiton.

This was the largest and most attended exhibition of American abstract art to be held outside of a major museum during the 1930s.

The exhibition was held between April 3 and April 17. The other artists who participated were: Rosalind Bengelsdorf, Ilya Bolotowsky, Harry Bowden, Byron Browne, George Cavallon, A. N.
