Description
"Willow Pool No. 1" was done in Lone Pine, California. The image was exhibited widely and can be found in a number of public and private collections. The plate was cancelled by the artist. Primarily an etcher, Roi Partridge used only drypoint on this image, engraving on the copper plate and not burnishing down the displaced copper, to create a "burr" which prints the line with a soft, velvety tone that is found throughout this image. Once the burr wears down from printing this effect is diminished and eventurally lost if the edition is large. Roi Partridge printed one trial proof of this work and appears to have printed the full edition of 55. A perfectionist, he would often destroy any prints he felt did not meet his standards, even after printing the edition.
