Description
This etching of chickens was done by Wenceslaus Hollar between 1654 and 1658. It is etched from a painting by the British painter Francis Balrlow and published in 1658 in "Diversae avium species studiosissime ad vitam delineatae per Fra: Barlow insignissim[um] Anglum pictorem."
The original painting upon which this etching is based (in reverse), is signed and dated "F. Barlow pinxit 1655", and is in the Paul Mellon Collection, Yale Center for British Art.
