Description
The town of Whitby is situated in northern England in Yorkshire. The town is split by the River Esk and, in this etching, Rice depicts a bridge linking the two sides of the town as well a sailboats which seem to be one of his favorite subjects. The ruins of the Gothic Whitby Abbey dominate the East Cliff headland and they were supposedly the inspiration for the Bram Stoker's Dracula.
