This gouache portrait of a woman holding a peach is on a sheet of delicate laid paper, which features a large watermark similar to Briquet/Hacket Vol. II #2291 (crown and shield). The edges of the recto are gilt, perhaps signifying that it was tipped in to a book or manuscript. Since the costume of the sitter appears to be much simpler than that of a member of an upper class (who could afford to commission a portrait), it is assumed that this is not a portrait, but an illustration or study.
