Description
Little is known about the Flemish artist Anothony van Leest. This image was likely done after a print from the first iteration of the "Rue Montorgueil" genre, a mid-16th to mid-17th century Parisian artist enclave famous for its religious broadprint trade. Woodcuts of biblical scenes were executed on cheaper paper and featured empty cartouches for inserting inscriptions in different languages.
