Description
This bridge appears to be a fortified Roman bridge, similar to those built in the 14th century in Italy. As with the famous Castelvecchio bridge in Verona, it features two-pronged ghibelline merlons lining the ramparts, and the stones lining the arch are of a pale stone (likely marble) while the rest of the bridge is made of a darker material (likely red brick). During World War II, the Castelvecchio was mostly destroyed by German bombs, and later rebuilt; it is thought that this may too may have been destroyed, and is lost to history.
