"An Umbrian Street" was done for the Northshore Arts Association in Glouster, Massachusetts in March of 1925 to be issued in a special folio. The edition consisted of 150 impressions and 3 trial proofs. It is included as entry number 2 in Arms' 'Italian Series', which Arms started in 1925 and ended as a series of 27 plates, of which this was the second. The Cathedral of San Rufino, one of 8 cathedrals located in Assisi, can be seen at the end of the ancient street.
Assisi, located in Umbrian region of the Province of Perugia in Italys' hill country, is the birthplace of Italy's patron saint, St Francis. It was founded somewhere around 295 BC. In 1181 AD, Assisi was occupied by Neolithic people, Etruscans, and Romans before Italy became a country.
Assisi currently is home to around 25,000 residents. It is a sister city to San Francisco, California. The Franciscan structures of Assisi were designated as a World Heritage Site in 2000.
