"The Three Mills" was done as the twelfth Presentation Gift Print for the Chicago Society of Etchers in 1921 and printed in an edition of 250.
The Chicago Society of Etchers, under the guidance of Bertha Jaques and the blessings of the Art Institute of Chicago, grew from an American membership of 20 in 1910 to an international membership of 119 active and 215 Associate members in 1918. The group disbanded in 1956.
This image was the first etching published by the society for a printmaker that was not living in the U.S.
