Between 1937 (when he was working with the WPA) and 1967 Raphael Soyer was commissioned by Associated American Artists (AAA) in New York to do 56 prints for AAA publications. These works were primarily lithographs with a few etchings.
This 1954 lithograph by Rapahel Soyer depicts two young lovers in a reflective embrace. Soyer scratched into the litho stone to achieve the highlights in the composition. It was published in an edition of 250 by Associated American Artists (AAA) in 1954 and printed by Master Printer George Miller. The AAA raisonné number is 1248.
In his foreward for Sylvan Cole's raisonné 'Raphael Soyer: fifty years of printmaking, 1917-1967' Jacob Kainen commented:
"In the 1950s, Soyer's production of prints took a sharp upswing, with 1954 the decisive year. A tendency to simplify planes...became more pronounced. This is evident in 'The Window' and "Boy and Girl...
