Description
Von Pechwell, also known as Charles Pechwill, was a notable artist in Vienna in his time who has since fallen into some obscurity. In "A Biographical History of the Fine Arts, Vol. II, M-Z", published 1857, on pg. 665, Spooner writes of von Pechwell: "...a German engraver, who flourished at Vienna in the latter part of the 18th century. He engraved the portrait of the Emporer Joseph II., after P. Batoni; and the portraits of several German princes and distinguished personages. The following subjects are particularly noticed among his best works: 'La vieillesse Amoureuse', after J. Toorenvliet'..."
