Description
There are about 372 species of parrots that are found in tropical and some subtropical regions. Parrots are often brightly colored and are thought to be one of the most intelligent bird species. They have curved beaks, strong legs and clawed feet. These three parrots where drawn by Rytter on November 2, 1922. This drawing was given or sold to Georg Bröchner, Danish author and critic, who wrote for The Studio and The International Studio magazines. Bröchner compiled several portfolios, The Golden Books, which showcased hundreds of works by international artists. The British Museum holds a Rytter woodcut entitled Parrots and its design suggests that it could have been conceived at the same time of this drawing.
