When asked about this image Evan Lindquist made the following comments:
In my logbook, the only impressions inscribed “state” of that print were the proofs turned in for grades at Iowa. The print you have must have been from the old IPG (Iowa Print Group) printmaking archives.
Working on that print was a complex learning experience from December 1961 through January 1963. The paper was Tucker Antique (also called Alexandra Japan). I was trying everything that popped into my mind. I used the rough side of a Norton IB-64 India stone to grind out (or lighten) parts of the image.
As you noted, it has a Lasansky approach. One copper plate printed black, while 2 zinc plates were reserved for various “warm” and “cool” inks. It all began with the head in the center of the plate, gradually moving outward.
