Description
This is the first print from the first state. Hecht worked the plate through 14 states, only state impressions, this and states 2, 3 (four impressions), 4, 8, 12, 13, and 14. Only a few proofs are known to exist. Hecht apparently gave up on the image or damaged the plate in some way. Later states add figures to the background, fills in feathers for the birds, adds a child to the front left line of figures, etc.
