Description
This portrait was originally executed as a waist-up portrait in rectangular format by the artist Daniel Hopfer, circa 1518, of Kunz von der Rosen, the advisor to German King Maximilian I. It appears, however, that the image was usurped by an enterprisiing art dealer - perhaps Albert Crantz (also spelled Krantz) - in order to portray the infamous pirate Klaus Stortebeker (Claus Sortenbecher) in 1682 for commercial purposes.
