Description
Max Pollak is likely referring to the town of Svatoborice-Mistrin in this illustration of a young woman in traditional Czechoslovakian attire. A part of the current Czech Republic, Svatoborice and Mistrin were merged into one municipality in the 16th century, and have retained traditional celebrations to this day. Pollak was conscripted into the Austrian Army around the time of this drawing; it may be that the military artist was passing the time during his outpost when he created this and several other drawings of locals.
