Description
Au Bacchus D'Or cafe was located in Paris, possibly on rue Frederic Sauton, and was attached to the front of an aging hotel when this image was created. Max and Friedl Pollak traveled throughout France in 1925, and Max paid special attention to Paris and the Pyrenees region. Here, an ordinary street corner becomes an intimate portrait of early 20th century, everyday city life. At night the streets will surely alight with revelers, but for now, the afternoon is quietly industrious, and the worn facades of the buildings watch over the street as they've done for many generations.
