Max Pollak produced a series of small portraits of pet cats and dogs, likely belonging to close friends and often sporting fashionable accoutrements. These serve as small windows into the humorous side of a serious artist. Here, Pollak depicts small long-haired dog in a green outfit, posed astride a hobby horse. Whether this specimen is a circus performer or the result of an inventive owner's fanciful imagination, we may never know.
