An illustrated calendar of historical events for each month of the year, accompanied by woodcuts of contellations by Aloys Rohr. Also included are poems by Adolf Thiele and writings by Hans Ludwig Oeser, accompanied by lithographically reproduced photos of sculptures by Rohr and Albert Mazzotti.
A portion of the introduction to this book loosely translates from the German: "This book was created in 1923 from community-connected life and work. What the wood cutter created in images, the word creator in rhymes, the image builder in Werfen made of stone, ore and wood is addressed to the community from the community. Man's solar year is surrounded by twelve sacred animal images; the star ring. Fellow creature became a symbol of honor; and it was exalted in mystical sympathy for the interconnectedness of all beings, and gave its name to heaven's shining stars. Midyear in the changing ring, the sun stands in the signs of these constellations.
The year is divided into twelve moons, sensibly arranged according to natural statutes. Giving human eternity and thus fulfillment to this fleeting and yet ever-renewing period of time is the task of the year to meet the needs of great, creative musicians, painters, sculptors, master builders, poets, statemen, natural scientists, astrologers of Occidental cultural communities. Her name lives in her womb, the manifestation is her body spirit soul."
