Description
Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmel is a Catholic mission located on the Monterey Peninsula, along the central California coast. Beatrice Ruth Willard depicts a figure resting against the near the mission chapel's gate. The second mission to be built in Spanish-occupied Alta California, it was the favored mission of Sanish priest Junipero Serra, and is where the controversial Franciscan missionary is interred.
