Description
Rouen is a major port city in France and is the capital of the northern region of Normandy. This city boasts one of the tallest churches in France, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame. Monet painted the cathedral at various times of the day but Arms elected to depict the medieval half-timbered houses in the old section of Rouen. The massive structure of the Butter Tower of Notre-Dame de Rouen looms over the neighborhood; a reminder of the Church's impact on the daily life of the citizens.
