Description
Barbara Johnson's warm composition appears to depict a large moon rising at the apex of a long, thin bridge that spans a wide river. At the time of this work's creation she was living in Japan, where her husband was stationed as a U.S. Fishery attache, and she was immersed in a culture that continued to inspire her long after her return to California. In order to capture the autumnal orange and red, Johnson first printed a gray-green hue, then layered the fiery, semi-transparent inks over it, muting the colors that were rolled onto deeply grained wood.
