The natural world remained a constant in the work of Barbara Johnson, and her experiences in Carmel, California, various port cities in Japan, and her early life in Massachusetts all influenced what she put to paper and canvas. In grays, blues, black, tan, and rust, Johnson creates a layered homage to the ocean and the offerings it leaves behind on the shoreline, with shapes that echo kelp, waves, and stones.
