Written by journalist and editor Fremont Older and his wife, historian and writer Cora Baggerly Fremont, this vellum-bound tome is one of two volumes published by William Randolph Hearst to commemorate each of his parents, George and Phoebe Hearst. The book was printed and bound by John Henry Nash in San Francisco, and the engravings, which include the titlepage and chapter headings, were executed by artist William Hancock Wilke. In 238 pages the authors discuss the history of the Hearst family in general and the life of George Hearst in detail, beginning with his childhood in Missouri.
A note on the condition: the coverboards are slightly bowed, and the end pages exhibit some discoloration around the edges adjacent to the boards. Otherwise, the book is in very good condition, with a clean interior, strong images, and tight binding. The price reflects condition.
