Francisco Moreno Capdevila drew on his memories of life during the Spanish Civil War when he began to pursue art, at the age of 13, upon his arrival in Mexico. Throughout his career he experimented with different styles and genres, but sociopolitical upheaval frequently influenced his work. In these early works signs of Francisco Goya's influence can be seen in the use of overhead light to cast huddled figures in sharp relief.
