Jim Crabb’s Surrealist etching “Silent Dancers” presents like a study of microscopic organisms that, upon close inspection, appear to be mimicking human forms and functions. The biomorphic shapes bend, twist, and curl in unison with calculated space between, much like a choreographed dance.
Whether intentional or not, Crabb’s work invites the viewer to investigate what is often overlooked, and to appreciate the beauty of that which does not have a direct, recognizable function. His lines are purposeful, the gradation of ink in the background rendered with care. The randomness of the unseen is revealed, suddenly, to be intentional.
