Little is known about the German printmaker Gerhard Augustine at this time. He was born in Berlin in 1887 and died in 1930, at age 43. This image of a Hungarian village has an expressionist approach to the simple composition. Augustin captures the result of a heavy wind, with the trees bent and misshapen by the constant forces of nature.
