First issued by Baumann in an edition of 100 in 1926, Summer Clouds remains one of Baumann's most iconic images. A stunning depiction of a bright New Mexico day, he's captured the famous blue of the high desert sky hung with a handful of perfect clouds. Below, earthen pueblos, hollyhocks, and two figures are illuminated by bright summer sun. Baumann entered Summer Clouds into the Seventh International Print Makers Exhibition in Los Angeles the same year, winning the Storrow Prize (offered for the best block print).
The white dots on the dress of the woman in the lower left suggests that it was printed at the same time Baumann completed the final impressions from the edition of 125. For in-depth reading on the different editions, see Chamberlain 110.
