Description
A rare, abstracted painting by Gustave Baumann from 1951 that displays a touch of Baumann's sense of humor. The format is not square, the result of which often prompts the viewer to try to straighten the canvas (in this case it is painted on board) and thus involves the viewer in the title, "Curiosity Killed the Cat." He further engages the viewer by including the title of the work subtly within the image, backwards. Baumann created the frame for the oil which becomes part of the painting and cannot be removed.
