Description
Baumann first printed impressions of Summer Rain in 1926. This is a generic old Santa Fe scene with adobe houses, compounds, and a public well. The atmospheric effects of cloudbursts fascinated Baumann and it is interesting to study how he carved his pink block to achieve the look of a downpour. His woodcuts Rain in the Mountains of 1926 and Grand Canyon of 1934 are also wonderful examples of his carving finesse in achieving the feel of walking rain or a drenching cloudburst. In 1956, Baumann re-cut his blocks and issued an edition of fifty impressions. Summer Rain has a long exhibition history and is included in ten public collections.
