A response to a friend's insomnia, Baumann portrays a sweetly surreal image of a flock of sheep exploring the soft surface of a pillow. Two campaigns exist for this image; this is from the reworked second edition and features plum-colored sheep on negative space, and an aluminum leaf background.
States Chamberlain on p. 450 of In a Modern Rendering: The Color Woodcuts of Gustave Baumann: 'Baumann produced an oil painting on board of the same theme for an insomniac friend, and it was so well received that he followed up with this color woodcut. There is a photograph of in the Baumann archive that directly relates to the design of this woodcut.'
