Rathbone did not identify the church that is the prominent feature of her color intaglio. She was not artistically interested in rendering buildings in great architectural detail and she therefore simplified her imagery by using lines to suggest outlines or footprints of buildings. Color aquatint was employed to give volume to the roof, walls, turrets, and spires of the church as well as the foliage of the surrounding trees and the distant body of water. Roulette added texture and density to the roofs and walls of the structures. Rathbone was a master colorist and understood the concept of less is more.
