For a short period of time, Augusta Rathbone was hired by the City of Paris to create portraits of their patrons in etching and color aquatint. The idea being that the sitters for the portraits would purchase the work to give away to friends and family. Only a handful of portraits were executed as the venture was not considered successful by the department store's standards.
