Drake's Estero is a federally protected estuary located in Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California. It acts as the main drainage point for the Point Reyes peninsula, emptying into Drake's Bay, and as such is a hot spot for various wildlife including several endangered species. Drake's estero was home to migratory indigenous tribes who traveled seasonally between the coast and inland, and who are often referred to as the Coast Miwok, though Coast Miwok are just one of several who hunted, fished, and gathered in the ecologically rich region and who continue to steward the land.
Byron McClintock captures a bird's eye view of the complex watershed, incorporating the heritage farmland, rock formations, shorline, and waterways into the image using a warm palette.
