McGinty’s Point is a jut of land located on the southwestern shore of Goose Lake, in Modoc County, California. The lake itself sits on the border of northeastern California and southeastern Oregon. Byron McClintock, who lives and works in Oregon, often depicts remote natural spaces of both of these states in his color intaglio prints, layering colors plucked from the landscape to evoke a sense of the environment rather than creating representational compositions.
In this image, he shows the land as seen from above, bordered by the alkaline waters of the lake. Rich color delineates between geological forms: warm, coppery browns and reds represent the land and cold blue-greens represent the water, a contrast that makes the image hum with beauty.
