Description
"Golden Pagoda in Rongoon" is one of Yoshida's international color woodcuts that were a result of his around the world trip. Shwedagob Pagoda and stupa is located in Yangon, Myanmar, Burma west of Kandawgyi Lake. Also known as the "Golden Pagoda" it is the most sacred Buddhist temple in Burma, built to contain 8 hairs of the Buddha. The spire, seen in the distance in this work, has a thick layer of gold, embedded with rubies and diamonds. The building is estimated to be between around 2600 years old. Earthquakes have damaged it over the centuries and repairs have been made.
