Description
Hasui is noted for his remarkable images that include snow and rain, such as in this print depicting a street in Kawarago, a Japanese fishing village on the beach in Hitachi city, Ibaraki Prefecture in the northern Kanto region of Japan. Kawarago is noted for its beach, which was totally destroyed in the tsunami of 2011. After the end of the war Hasui returned to the imagery of his early success, re-examining the villages and landscape of post-war Japan. In this work rain water runs through the street at night while inside the houses lanterns are lit and all is safe, for the moment. This impression is from the collection of the California print collector, Roger Epperson. Impressions of this image will vary in color.
