Description
This is one of twenty-nine impressions printed by Baumann in 1949 before he retired the blocks. He carved a new set of blocks and printed his first impressions from his new blocks in 1951. Those impressions were also entitled A Lilac Year or Lilac Year but the scene is very different. This impression, numbered I 15-125 '49, has a turquoise wooden gate as the focal point on the left and a rich profusion of turquoise leaves on the right. Shadows are cast on the right side of the driveway, fences are on the left side of the driveway, and tall green shrubs break the flat plain of the violet sky. This scene depicts the lilac bushes down the driveway on the east side of the Baumann residence on Camino de las Animas.
