Description
This could very well be another of Max Pollak's portraits from Berlin, drawn on the plate from sketches he did of friends in the art world during his time there between the wars. This fashionable young woman, known here only as Miss H., strikes an elegant pose in an off-the-shoulder striped gown, her coy expression slightly exagerrated. Having been a battlefield artist for the Austrian army during World War I, he immersed himself in Berlin's exciting and revolutionary arts scene as soon as the war ended, surrounding himself with dancers, actors, musicians, and fashion designers who explored the transformational edge of modernism.
