Description
After fleeing England for the U.S. after the fall of Dunkirk to Nazi Germany, Doris Seidler met Stanley William Hayter, also a British refugee, and began taking printmaking classes at his famed experimental printmaking workshop around 1942. She would return with her family to England in 1945, and finally resettle in the U.S. in 1949, continuing to work at Atelier 17 until it shuttered its doors in the U.S. in 1950. She remained in New York and continued to print, paint, and draw until her death in 2010. This collage was done by the artist in 1983 from proofs of her earlier prints, cut up and reassembled.
