Description
According to Gene Baro: For this project, Eichenberg produced twenty-nine wood engravings from boxwood plus nine chapter headings. Eichenberg has some doubts about his success with these illustrations. This is perhaps because he was less successful in identifying himself with the tragic Prince Myshkin. “I felt I could have done better,” the artist said to the present writer. Nevertheless, the artist’s inner doubts are not reflected in the powerful effects achieved in these illustrations.
