Continuing with her exploration of dreamscapes, lithographer Herlinde Spahr renders a metaphysical image of an articulated wooden hand drawing an image of torn sheet of paper, rendered on a lithography stone that has split down the middle, drawn on a sheet made to look as if it, too, has been torn. This could be interpreted as the human fear of failure or simply a display of the artist’s connection to her tools and their representation of struggle and progress. While the subconscious process of dreams to address worries and fear are often a focus for artists of all genres and styles, Spahr’s work especially wades into the deep end of this theme. She consistently uses neutral tones and patterns that repeat themselves throughout the body of her work, manifesting in “Accident” as spheres, stones, and echoed actions.
