Description
Ihle began his multi-year "Canadian Series", which delved into Canadian Native American imagery, in the mid 1970s. "Kea Bule" is plate number 128 of the series, done in 1983. Ihle used fabrics with pictographic elements that were collaged to the plate, inked 'a la poupée' and printed. Ihle also used a viscous material, perhaps white glue, to create a network of subtle symbols. Done in a small "edition" of 10 impressions, each impression was printed individually and varies in color from the others. This impression is editioned "IIX/X". "Turtle Lake" is located in Central-West Saskatchewan, Canada and is named after a Cree tribal legend about a monster that resided in it, now thought to be a massive sturgeon. The Cree people are one of the largest of the First Nations population in Canada.
