Description
John Taylor Arms depicts a carved stone calvary of the 16th century in Breton, France. Calvaries, Christian monuments that usually includes three crosses - one for Jesus, one for the impenitent thief, and one for the penitent thief - can be found throughout the world but large concentrations of the wayside altars are found in Brittany, France. Calvaries serve as places of worship for pilgrims and are used as focal points in village celebrations.
