Description
A "stele" or "stela" is a carved wood or stone tablet, used in ancient times as a boundary marker for expeditions and in more contemporary times as funerary markers on battlefields. Fletcher creates a somber, elegant abstraction of the stone markers in Melbourne, Australia, which honor the deadly campaign that took place in Gallipoli (Gelibolu), Turkey, on April 25th, 1915.
