Description
When asked about the grid patterns of his monotypes as found in Spectral Performance of a Chorus in Footlights, Fletcher stated that he took lots of photographs of the natural light coming through the windows illuminating the dark interiors of churches and cathedrals. In creating his imagery, he sometimes uses the edge of a roller for horizonal lines. He no longer uses brushes but relies on cardboard chips of difference shapes with varying edges. Fletcher composes from the edges of the image inward and most of his marks are made to the right like writing. His images “are not planned—nothing is preordained—it is an open-ended exploration.”
