Description

Linda Leiberman depicts the the banks of Big River in Mendocino County, California. It flows though the Mendocino Woodlands State Park and the Big River Estuary, host to diverse flora and fauna, before finally emptying into the Pacific Ocean through the sandbars of Big River Beach. Lieberman captures the meeting of these unique landscapes as they begin to merge, the banks stretching out to encompass the wetland islands that emerge at low tide. The viewer can imagine themselves sitting on such a bank hearing the calls of redwing blackbirds, hawks, and gulls, and the soft wending of the water.

According to MeetMendocino.com: There are beaches all up and down the Mendocino coast, but none is as iconic as Big River Beach. Located down the cliffs from the village of Mendocino, Big River is a sprawling sandy beach perfect for a little seaside fun, sunbathing, or splashing in the water. The beach itself changes its configuration from year to year, depending on how the storms have rearrange the channel. Some years there will be a massive lagoon on the northwest corner of the beach, while other years a channel will have formed, creating a larger sandbar island that can be waded out to.
