The locale for Patterns in Nature is Limantour Beach at Point Reyes Station in Marin County, California. This is a view of the estero from the metal bridge and highlights the curves of the marsh waters, the sand dunes, and the coastal grasses.
Using the tonal qualities of the aquatint technique, Linda Lieberman richly illuminates the subtleties of color and texture found along the Northern California coast. Of particular interest to Lieberman is the biodiverse region of Marin County, whose wetlands, beaches, old fishing villages, and gnarled cypress are recurring themes in both her intaglio and relief prints.
Born in California and raised in Chicago, Lieberman first pursued painting on her artistic path. She earned her BS in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin before returning to California, settling in the San Francisco Bay Area and earning her MA at San Francisco State University. While working as an educator in Marin County, she continued to paint but did not begin working with printmaking until 2007; it has since become her preferred medium.
