This modernist etching of a "New England Valley" was done in 1928, the year that the Cooks took the first of many driving trips across the U.S. and after his life changing trip to New Mexico. It was also the year he met dealer and curator Carl Zigrosser, whose support became so important in Cook's career.
The Cooks spent the summer of 1928 on Deer Island in the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick, Canada where Howard worked on perfecting his etching skills.
Though editioned at 50 Cook only printed 35 impressions of "New England Valley", which was selected in 1930 for the American Institute of Graphic Arts' 'Fifty Prints of the Year'.
