In 1922, Chagall drew in a sketchbook with lithographic pencil and the book was closed and unopened. In 1956, the drawings were rediscovered by Chagall and, since the litho crayon line was not totally dried, Mourlot was able to print a few impressions of them by transfer. They were able to print 10 images, each in an edition of 7 plus 2 artist's proofs. This is one of the artist's proofs of Mourlot 29, "Bearded Man with Cap."
